Dental
Phobic
We can help
All too frequently, a
planned visit to the dentist is looked on with a degree of anxiety,
dread and misery. The most common reasons people fear going to the
dentist are related to a past traumatic dental experience,
difficulty getting numb, gag reflex, or very sensitive teeth. Now
there is a solution to all of these problems and have anxiety,
pain-free dentistry done while you rest and sleep.
Oral Sedation
Sometimes call “Sedation
Dentistry” involves taking several tablets or pills an hour or so
prior to the dental appointment. These pills get digested into your
body and help to relax you prior to any dental work. We add a little
bit of nitrous oxide to make the sedation complete. This technique
works great for about 3 out of every 10 patients.
Pill-Free or Conscious Sedation
The
Pill-Free or Conscious Sedation cocktail can deliver a combination
of sedative/hypnotic drugs that are given through an intravenous
catheter to create a state of deep relaxation and amnesia. The
patient’s are free of anxiety, lose the sense of time, and have no
memory of the procedure. The pill-free sedation works at least 90%
of the time.
Is it safe?
Conscious
sedation is extremely safe and is an excellent modality for an
extremely apprehensive patient for any dental procedure or a patient
undergoing a surgical procedure. Dr. Lunn and staff can perform all
dental procedures including advanced cosmetics, dental implants, and
other general dentistry procedures such as root canals, gum
treatments, and crowns. While most extensive dental appointments can
last anywhere from 1½ to 2½ hours to complete, a patient under
conscious sedation can be sedated throughout the procedure and wake
up when the dental work is completed. During the procedure the
patient is continually monitored with EKG, automatic blood pressure,
and oxygen saturation levels.
